We have demonstrated the effectiveness of micro-processed plastic optical fibers for strain sensing.
Applications in infrastructure monitoring and other areas are expected.

Mr. Nakanishi, a first-year master’s student, is the first author of this paper, which is the result of joint research with Ritsumeikan University, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Yokohama National University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan).
