Take Your Research to the Next Stage in Graduate School

In the Yamane Laboratory, we integrate MEMS, functional materials, LSI technologies, AI, and related fields to develop, evaluate, and apply real devices while creating new technological value.

In graduate school, students build on the foundations developed during their undergraduate studies and acquire the ability to advance research independently.

In an era of rapidly advancing AI and robotics, it is increasingly important not only to use existing technologies, but also to identify research challenges and create new knowledge and technologies.

Through Master’s and doctoral studies, students develop the expertise and research capabilities needed to deepen and lead research.

Research develops through discussion, analysis, and continuous refinement of ideas.

Students also have the opportunity to present their research findings in academic journals and at academic conferences both in Japan and abroad, as well as to participate in international collaborative researches.

Growth through Master’s and Doctoral Studies

Master’s Program

Deepen your research and develop the ability to plan, conduct, analyze, and communicate your work independently.

  • Present research at academic conferences
  • Participate in collaborative research
  • Develop advanced expertise and research skills

Doctoral Program

Lead original research and develop the ability to create new knowledge, technologies, and value.

  • Pursue original and independent research
  • Communicate research internationally
  • Grow into an independent researcher or engineer

Students from Other Universities and Disciplines

We welcome students from other universities and academic backgrounds who are interested in pursuing graduate research in our laboratory.

  • Laboratory visits
  • Consultation on research topics
  • Admission and graduate-study consultation

Research Environment and Supervision

The Yamane Laboratory conducts research on advanced MEMS devices and related technologies from both hardware and software perspectives. Students have opportunities to work across device fabrication, experiments, characterization, modeling, and system-level research.

Research progress, results, and future directions are discussed regularly through laboratory meetings and individual supervision, helping students develop the ability to advance their research independently.

Students are also encouraged to take on academic conference presentations, paper writing, and international collaborative research step by step.

Doctoral Studies and Research Support

Students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree receive continuous support, including advice on research planning and career development.

We also actively support applications for external research fellowships, including the JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists (DC).

Ritsumeikan University provides various scholarships, research grants, and tuition support programs for doctoral students.

Students from Other Universities and Disciplines

We welcome applicants from other universities and a wide range of academic backgrounds. Our research benefits from the integration of different fields, including mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, information science, materials science, optics, and chemistry.

If you are interested in joining the laboratory, you are welcome to discuss possible research topics and visit the laboratory before applying.
